Martinsville and Henry County have received a CDBG Telecommunications Planning Grant to assess the current state of broadband capabilities within the geographical area.
The initiative has been driven by two significant factors:
Knowing that some gaps in service exist across the county and potentially in the city but not knowing the precise need to ensure universal coverage
Increased awareness of the need to ensure access to the internet for all citizens particularly in light of the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.
This grant, along with a matching grant provided by the Harvest Foundation, will be used to hire a consultant who will survey the localities to find underserved areas and propose solutions for expanding internet coverage throughout.
