Grand Jury Information

Grand jury takes place six times each calendar year, at the start of each term of court in January, March, May, July, September, and November. These jurors are selected per the Code of Virginia § 19.2-194.

Grand juries consider bills of indictment, hear witnesses and determine whether there is probable cause to believe that an accused committed a crime and should stand trial. The grand jury does not hear both sides of the case and does not determine the guilt or innocence of the accused.

If you are selected for Grand Jury, you will be notified by phone. You will also receive a packet of information, personally served by a Henry County Sheriff's Deputy, which will contain a grand jury handbook, a letter from Katherine Salgado—our Clerk of Court—and a summons with your date of service.
