Recording of Land Records / Maps

*As of July 1, 2018 we are no longer accepting the Tax Map Number on the first page of documents for land records. Instead please provide the Parcel ID Number A.K.A the Account Number. This number can be obtained from our County GIS website.*

Recording Requirements code of Virginia 17.1-223:

  • Parcel ID or Account Number - code of Virginia 17.1-252
  • Assessed and Consideration Values
  • Any Exemption codes claimed clearly stated on the face of the writing
  • Each page of the writing is numbered consecutively
  • Who Prepared the Document on the first page
  • Attorney's Bar Number
  • Name of the title insurance underwriter or statement that it is unknown to the preparer
  • Type of Document
  • Legal descriptions are required on all Deeds and Deeds of Trust
  • All documents must be properly signed and notarized
